We have a vision for putting flash-sized bites of literature and short poems into recycled prescription bottles.
To execute that vision, last fall we had an open call for submissions, and we received many, many wonderful stories and poems.
But after carefully reading and re-reading each submission, we have come to the difficult decision that none of the excellent submissions we received quite fit our vision for this project. That doesn’t mean we didn’t receive fantastic work — part of what made this such a difficult decision was the amount of high quality writing we received.
Instead of selecting an awesome piece of work that, despite being excellent isn’t exactly what we were looking for, we have decided to head back to square one and rethink our call for submissions and how we can better communicate our vision.
If we decide on another open call for submissions, it will most likely come this fall or winter, with an estimated publication date of summer 2015.
Those of you who submitted should have received an email from us notifying you of this decision. If you have not heard back, double check that you followed the guidelines and that our email didn’t get caught in your spam filter.
We know this is disappointing to everyone, but feel it would have been more disappointing to compromise the integrity of the project with something that wasn’t quite what we had intended.
Thank you again to everyone who entrusted their words to us. We wish you the best of luck in finding good homes for your writing.
